Four-time Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Dr. Kiiza Besigye has announced that he will not be standing in the 2021 Uganda General election. According to Daily Monitor’s Damali Mukhaye, this was during a press briefing at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi where he expressed his stand on the much contested issue.
This comes at a time when the opposition political party is ending the picking of nomination forms exercise from whom the flag bearer will be elected. The pronouncement by Dr Besigye confirms the lingering rumour that he was not willing to offer himself for the position.
However the longtime opposition strong man has not quit the liberation struggle to uproot NRM’s Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He unveiled existence of plan B and vowed to support the party position as plan A highlighting that elections cannot bring change in Uganda since they are not free and fair.
The race for flag bearer has now been left between the party president Patrick Amuriat and party chairman Wasswa Birigwa who will compete between themselves for who will hold the ticket for 2021 presidential elections.
